GET ‘SMARTER’ EVERY DAY

JUST like elementary school, “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” is going daily.

Jeff Foxworthy, who hosts the Prime-time version of the quiz show, is expected to sign on as host of the daily syndicated version, which should be available to TV stations in fall 2009, according to trade publication Broadcasting and Cable.

Twentieth Television, the studio behind the show, wouldn’t confirm that the show is heading into a daily format. “We’re always happy to bring great programming to syndication,” a spokesman said.

In the game, a contestant attempts to correctly answer questions from first- through fifth-grade-level textbooks. As the questions get harder, the money gets bigger, with question No. 11 worth $1 million.

Contestants can ask school-age cast members for help on any question, but if they give a wrong answer, the player must admit that she or he is not smarter than a fifth grader.
