RIKERS GUARDS FRISKED

Red-faced over accusations that a number of Rikers Island guards gave alleged cop killer Lee Woods preferential treatment, the Correction Department has a new policy – officers are now frisked as they arrive for work, sources told The Post.

And the unprecedented security measure has ruffled the rank and file’s feathers and prompted a work slowdown that on Saturday deprived some inmates of their lunches, a source said.

“They’ve always searched staff when they come into facilities,” the source said. “Officers are supposed to empty out their pockets, and all go through magnetometers.

“[But] yesterday, they were making officers take off their shoes. [And] I understand people were pat frisked. They’d never ever touched anybody in the past.”

Woods is one of three men awaiting trial in the shooting death of Police Officer Russel Timoshenko on July 9, 2007.
