Green is the new blue for the NYPD.
With a growing fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles, the NYPD has made a pledge to go green and stay green.
The agency now has a fleet of more than 100 alternative-fuel vehicles, including some 60 flex-fuel SUVs – which run on a combination of gasoline and corn-based ethanol fuel – and hybrid SUVs that run on a combination of gasoline and electric power.
The alternative-fuel fleet, which began with the purchase of the four-wheel vehicles in 2002, has grown over the last two years to include some less traditional forms of transport.
The fleet also includes electric T3 Motion three-wheel scooters, as well as nearly a dozen electric single-rider Segway scooters.
