GRADE IDEA GETS AN A

The city’s second round of assigning A through F letter grades to its elementary and middle schools is expected to produce better marks overall this year than last year, dozens of principals told The Post.

Similar to students’ grades on their report cards, today’s ratings come with real consequences – particularly now, in the second year of the initiative.

Schools that receive D’s and F’s for two consecutive years are vulnerable to getting new principals or being shut down, while those earning A’s will get additional funding.

“By and large there seems to be positive information about the progress reports,” said Ernest Logan, president of the principals union. “We are generally hearing that the reports are more balanced than last year’s.”
