BURGLARY BLITZ HITS VIPS’ BUILDING

Burglars hit three apartments in a week at an Upper East Side building whose tenant list reads like a Who’s Who of city government and made off with more than $100,000 in valuables, police sources said yesterday.

The thieves hit two apartments at 215 E. 68th St. on Sept. 2. A third tenant reported a burglary on Tuesday, but it could have happened as early as Sept. 4, because the tenant had been out of town for a week, the sources said.

In all cases, there was no sign of forced entry. In two of the heists, the thieves made off with more than $100,000 in watches and jewelry.

The rent-stabilized building is home to numerous city luminaries, including former Mayor David Dinkins, New York County Clerk Norman Goodman, former Police Commissioner Howard Safir, former Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen and former Fox 5 anchor John Roland.

None was a victim of the thefts, the sources said.

Building officials distributed notices of the robberies to all 608 apartments in the monolithic high-rise, which is run by the politically connected Rudin Management Co., residents said.

“It’s kind of scary. We’ve all gotten fliers under our doors about the burglaries,” one tenant said.
