‘SNL’ OVERHAUL

THE irreplaceable Amy Poehler will not be replaced on “Saturday Night Live.”

Seth Meyers, who co-anchors the show’s centerpiece feature – “Weekend Update” – will be anchoring alone, at least for a while, “SNL” creator/executive producer Lorne Michaels told The Post yesterday.

“He’s going to be doing [‘Update’] solo for the foreseeable future,” Michaels said.

Meyers anchored the segment alone last Saturday, the same day Poehler gave birth to son Archie (dad is actor Will Arnett).

“My hope was that Amy would stay forever . . and these changes are complicated,” Michaels said.

“I’m not trying to dodge this.”

“SNL” will eventually add “one or two” female cast members – but what roles they will play is undecided at this point, Michaels said.

“As long as Amy was there I was fine with the three women [cast members] we had,” he said. (The show’s other two female cast members are Kristen Wiig and Casey Wilson.)

Michaels was asked when those new cast members might join the show. “As soon as we find them,” he said.

He also diplomatically addressed reports that Barack Obama would appear on this Saturday’s show – three days before the election – hosted by Ben Affleck.

“I heard the rumors about him, and there were also rumors about John McCain” coming on the show as well, he said. “Again, I’m not being coy, but until people are in the building . . .

“Twice we expected Obama, but he had to cancel. Once because of the hurricane [last August] and again because of his trip to Hawaii [to visit his ailing grandmother last week].

“And,” he added, “we never announce anything.”

If Obama does materialize Saturday night, he will have to face a cast that knows he’s not a big fan of “SNL”er Fred Armisen’s impression of him.

“I’ve got to say,” Obama told an interviewer last week, “compared to Tina Fey and what she’s doing with Gov. Palin, my imitator isn’t doing as great of a job.

“I do know that my ears have been getting bigger and bigger on that show each episode.

“I’m sure they’ll get it right over time.”

“I think he’s complaining about Fred’s impression because he’s not nearly as hot as Tina’s Sarah Palin,” Michaels said.

“He’s not complaining about the impression itself, but it’s not sweeping the country like Tina’s.

“Fred’s doing fine with it.”

Like a lot of other people in TV, Michaels is ready for the elections to be over.

“We’ve been doing two shows a week for the last three weeks and everyone’s fried,” he said.

“We have one last show before the election, then I think we’re gonna regroup and start to figure it out.”
