TRANSIT UNION CAN COLLECT DUES AGAIN

The transit workers union can once again collect dues from members’ paychecks, a judge said yesterday.

The Transport Workers Union Local 100 was barred from automatically deducting the funds as a penalty for its illegal holiday-season strike in 2005.

Workers pay about $60 a month in dues, the union’s lawyer said.

State Supreme Court Justice Bruce Balter changed his opposition to the automatic deductions after union leaders filed sufficient paperwork promising they would not strike again.
