NEW GIG, SAME ‘L’ FOR LARRY

Larry Brown lost another game at Madison Square Garden. Fortunately for the Knicks, he’s on the other side now.

And although his old team is still a mess, Brown doesn’t think the Knicks will stay that way for long.

“I think they’ll get it done here,” Brown said. “They have a bright guy coaching [Mike D’Antoni] and a bright guy running this team [Donnie Walsh]. It takes time.”

Brown did not have time when he was here and got canned after one disastrous season when the Knicks finished 23-59 in 2005-06.

“We didn’t win a lot of games with me as the coach,” Brown said before the Knicks held on for a 101-98 win over his Bobcats. “That’s something I think about a lot because people here deserve the best. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.”

Brown feuded with players, ownership and Isiah Thomas during his brief tenure in his “dream job.” In the two years after Brown was ousted, things didn’t improve much under Thomas.

“It doesn’t give you any satisfaction,” Brown said. “I understand what the record was, but I don’t get any pleasure [in seeing] anyone else struggle.

“I think it’s important for our league that the Knicks keep getting better.”

Brown said he believes his young Bobcats can improve, but he said the same thing when he coached the Knicks.

“I’m confident Donnie will do a great job and that makes me feel good,” Brown said. “I didn’t do what was expected of me and you move on.”
