FINGERS CROSSED AFTER JACOBS MRI

The Giants hope running back Brandon Jacobs will not miss any time with a knee injury that required a precautionary MRI yesterday.

Jacobs injured a knee in the first half of Sunday’s 30-10 victory over the Ravens.

“There is a little swelling, but he is walking really well,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “They are going to do all of the tests. But hopefully we can get this under control.”

Jacobs rushed nine times for 73 yards and finished with 11 rushing attempts for 73 yards after sitting out almost all of the second half. He said he could have returned if he were needed, and did not seem concerned after the game.

Cornerback Aaron Ross had a big day with the first two interceptions of the season, the second returned 50 yards for a touchdown, but he did not finish the game because of what the team first announced was a calf injury. Coughlin called it “a hamstring issue,” and Ross underwent an MRI as well.

Two defensive backs – Corey Webster (groin) and James Butler (knee) – went into the game with nagging injuries and came out in good shape.

“I came out great,” Webster said.

John Carney was deactivated for the first time this season, with Lawrence Tynes handling all the kicking duties. But Coughlin insists this will be a weekly decision.

“I am not going to say it is going to be one way or the other,” Coughlin said.

Sunday’s game will be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., site of Super Bowl XLII.

“I’m sure there will be a quick, ‘We have been here before’ kind of thing and it was nice; it was a wonderful trip,” Coughlin said.

“So I’m sure that will flash through our minds. But it will quickly go right to the Arizona Cardinals, who have a good team.”

The Giants’ Nov. 30 game in Washington against the Redskins will remain a 1 p.m. kickoff, as the game was protected by Fox and will not be flexed to a later starting time.

The Cardinals have some injury issues in their defensive backfield.

Cornerbacks Eric Green (knee) and Roderick Hood (ribs) are hurting, and strong safety Adrian Wilson could be facing disciplinary action by the league.

Wilson earlier this season was fined $25,000 for a hit on Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards, and warned that his next offense could land him a suspension.

Wilson, in the second quarter Sunday, sacked Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck with what might have been a helmet-to-helmet hit. Though no penalty was called, the league is sure to review the play.
