A restaurant serving workers in Harlem’s landmark Adam Clayton Powell state office building will stay open after a last-minute reprieve from the taxman.
Windows Over Harlem was in arrears to the tune of $120,000.
Enforcement officers with the state Department of Taxation and Finance marched into the eatery on West 125th Street, prepared to slap a padlock on the door.
After several hours of negotiation with the restaurant owners, officials agreed to allow it to remain open after the owners handed over a sizable check.
“It was enough to satisfy the agents,” said department spokesman Tom Bergin, without specifying the exact amount.
