GOV’S MTA PICK FACES ROUGH RIDE

Gov. Paterson’s rumored favorite to be the next MTA chief may hit some stiff resistance if he goes for confirmation in the state Senate.

Marc Shaw, Paterson’s lead negotiator in this week’s $2.3 billion MTA bailout, “is not very well liked in our conference,” one source said.

“Marc Shaw rubbed a whole lot of people the wrong way” during the talks, the source added.

Senators were upset, sources said, about efforts to make last-minute changes to what lawmakers thought were agreed-upon deals, like reimbursing schools subject to a new payroll tax and an audit of the MTA.

Other possible candidates for the job include Tim O’Toole, former London Underground director, and Nathaniel Ford, the chief of the San Francisco MTA.
