Tie-dye in the sky

Shining in psychedelic yellows, purples and reds in a tribute to the Grateful Dead, the Empire State Building was truly the highest in New York last night.

The trippy, tie-dye color scheme promoted an exhibition on the band at the New-York Historical Society, which opens March 2010.

Band members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir — who are performing around the city this week — will be honored at the reception.

The exhibit highlights items from the extensive Grateful Dead Archive housed at the University of California Santa Cruz. The archive was established in 2008.
