MALPRACTICE RATES STABLE

ALBANY — Gov. Paterson has signed legislation to freeze medical malpractice insurance rates for another year.

Dr. Robert Menotti, president of Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Co., the state’s largest insurer, says the measure positions them to lose about $55 million more from their $275 million surplus, which has been dwindling from past rate freezes, putting their solvency at risk.
