Sheen quits ‘2 1/2 Men’

Troubled Charlie Sheen says he’s leaving his hit CBS sitcom, “Two and a Half Men,” at the end of the season.

Sheen, who returned to the “Men” set last month after a stint in rehab, will call it quits after taping his final episode April 9, according to a report in People magazine.

“Charlie’s just done,” an on-set source told People. “And he’s quietly telling friends he’s not coming back.”

If Sheen does leave, he would forfeit his $18.1 million annual salary for “Men.”

He earns a reported $825,000-per-episode for TV’s top-rated sitcom, on which he co-stars with Jon Cryer as a womanizing jingle writer living on the beach in California.

“Men” averages around 18 million viewers per week for CBS, and is also a big hit in syndication, where it ranked third among all shows for the week ending March 21 with 7.1 million viewers.

Sheen’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, didn’t deny the report. “Charlie’s deal is only through this current season,” he told People.

Sheen’s apparent departure from “Men” caps off a rocky run for the actor, who shot to fame in Oliver Stone’s “Platoon” and “Wall Street” and has starred on his CBS sitcom for seven seasons.

Sheen’s most recent run-in with the law occurred last Christmas Day in Aspen, when he was slapped with domestic violence charges after allegedly attacking his wife, Brooke Mueller — who told cops he choked her and held a knife to her throat during an argument.

Sheen said the couple, who has twin baby boys, only argued and slapped each other on the arm, and that he broke two pairs of glasses in front of Mueller.

The 44-year-old actor officially pleaded not guilty March 16 in Aspen. A judge scheduled a jury trial for July 21.

Sheen, the son of acclaimed actor Martin Sheen, has a long history of troubles — including accidentally shooting then-fiancee Kelly Preston in the arm (1990) and an accidental drug overdose (injecting heroin) in 1998, which led to a stint in rehab.

Sheen’s latest rehab visit was for “preventative measures,” according to Rosenfield. Mueller was also in rehab at the time.

Reps for CBS and for Warner Bros., which produces “Men,” declined to comment yesterday.
