Canadian TV trend

The Canadian TV crossing-the- border trend continues.

ABC announced that cop drama “Rookie Blue” will debut on June 24 simultaneously with its Canadian premiere on Global Television.

Shot in Toronto, the 13-part series — originally titled “Copper” — tracks five inexperienced rookies faced with keeping the peace in the big city. Canadian actors Gregory Smith (“Everwood“), Missy Peregrym (“Reaper“), Enuka Okuma and Travis Milne star.

This is the third time that an American network has picked up a series set and shot in Canada, starring an all-Canadian cast. In 2008, CBS had success with cop show “Flashpoint,” leading to its commissioning another cop drama, “The Bridge.”
