Obama versus ‘Lost’ or ‘Idol’

President Obama has a prime time problem.

The White House has reportedly floated two dates, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, as possibilities for the annual State of the Union address.

It just so happens that Feb. 2 is the season premiere of “Lost,” which is set to begin its long-talked-about final season that night.

And Jan. 26 is the beginning of Week 3 of “American Idol” on Fox.

Woe to a President who tries to compete with audition week of “Idol” to make a 90-minute speech on future policy.

The dilemma for the networks is to move around programs they have been promoting for weeks to make room for the speech — or plow ahead with original plans.

ABC officials had no comment yesterday, but an insider says ABC has “contigency plans” for “Lost” if the White House chooses the Feb. 2 date.

“If [the speech] airs on Feb. 2, then they’ll figure something out, ” says the source.

Fox says it will bump “Idol,” if it has to.
