Denzel aces CC on ‘Leno Show’

CC Sabathia got hit with his first loss of 2010 last night.

Appearing on “The Jay Leno Show” the ace lefty faced Denzel Washington in a game of Yankees trivia and was no match for the two-time Oscar winner.

Washington set the tone by beating Sabathia to the buzzer on, “Which Yankees pitcher won the most games in 2009?” The answer, of course, was Sabathia, who went 19-8 with a 3.37 ERA last season.

Leno followed with, “Which beverage did Yogi Berra endorse?”

Washington buzzed in and correctly answered “Yoohoo.”

The next questions was: What were the Yankees called before becoming the Yankees? Washington correctly responded “Highlanders.”

Finally, Sabathia got one right: Which Yankee was the AL Championship Series MVP against the Angels in 2009?

“That would be me, Jay,” Sabathia responded.

Next came a multiple-choice question that Sabathia botched: Which Yankee struck out the most times in one season? Sabathia incorrectly took Reggie Jackson. Washington swooped in with the correct answer, Alfonso Soriano.

“I’m a Yankees fan — I know my Yankees,” Washington quipped.

At least Sabathia knows his own teammates. The final question: “Which Yankee attended Georgia Tech and played for the Rangers and Braves?” went to Sabathia, who correctly answered Mark Teixeira.

Final score: Denzel 4, CC 2.
