“A Streetcar Named Desire” (CC) (1951)

Marlon Brando was robbed of his Oscar although Vivien Leigh, Karl Malden and Kim Hunter all won theirs for the performances in this Elia Kazan-directed version of the Tennessee Williams play about a crazy southern belle teacher who seeks refuge with her pregnant sister and brutish husband after being tossed from her hometown for seducing a student.

“Gone Baby Gone” (CC) (2007)

Amy Ryan was robbed of her Oscar in this gritty drama about the kidnapping of a baby in a down-and-out section of Boston. Directed by Ben Affleck, the movie stars brother Casey Affleck as a PI who along with his girlfriend, (Michelle Monaghan), are hired by the tot’s aunt to find the baby but they end up butting heads with top cop, Morgan Freeman.

“The Good Earth” (1937)

Way back in the 1930’s when they didn’t use Asians to play Asians, Paul Muni still managed to do a bang up job (and get robbed of an Oscar) as a poor Chinese farmer who is given a slave as a wife whose greatness he doesn’t really appreciate. Ironically that great movie wife, Luise Rainer, did win an Oscar.

“The Insider” (1999)

Nobody got robbed of their deserved Oscars in this based-on-true story about a tobacco company chemist/executive (Oscar winning role for Russell Crowe), whose life spins out of control when he risks everything to reveal the company’s products health risks on “Sixty Minutes.” CBS then shelved the interview to avoid a lawsuit. Eight Oscars including “Best Picture.”
