Twitter campaign to get Sarah Palin

‘This Week” interim anchor Jake Tapper has launched a Twitter campaign to snare Sarah Palin as a guest for ABC’s Sunday-morning show.

And, yes, Tapper is aware he’s following in the footsteps of the recent Facebook campaign that landed Betty White as host of “Saturday Night Live” after a massive online write-in effort.

“I don’t know if people will find it as compelling [as Betty White], nor will the end result be necessarily as huge a hit,” Tapper told The Post yesterday. “After all, this is a Sunday public affairs show.”

Tapper, who’s got a big Twitter following, tweeted yesterday that, “I’d hope SarahPalinUSA fans might want her to broaden her reach by coming on This Week. . .talk politics and policy.”

“She has a big Internet following. She tweets and Facebooks all the time,” Tapper said of Palin, the ex-Alaska governor and 2008 GOP VP candidate who’s currently a Fox News Channel contributor and host of an upcoming Discovery show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”

“I’ve reached out to try to get her on the show, so far with no success,” Tapper said of Palin.

“I thought, I have nothing to lose . . . and, more importantly, since I’m a dreaded member of the mainstream media, at the very least, people on Twitter who know my work can vouch for me and say, ‘This guy is a fair reporter.’ ”

(Palin may not even be allowed to appear on ABC — since, in general, network contributors are exclusive to their particular networks, in this case Palin to FNC.)

Tapper is hosting “This Week” until Christiane Amanpour joins the show in August.
