The Devils Wednesday placed LW Brian Rolston on re-entry waivers, allowing any other NHL team to claim him at half salary and half his cap hit, with New Jersey responsible for the remainder.
Rolston was assigned to Albany Tuesday as a preliminary requisite for re-entry, after being waived on Dec. 14.
The 37-year-old has the rest of this season and next remaining at $5 million salary. After being signed from Minnesota in 2008 following three 30-goal seasons, Rolston has scored 15, 20 and two goals in this second stint with New Jersey.
If unclaimed, the Devils can put their 1991 first-rounder back in their lineup.
