American Apparel seeks to nail LI polish firm

American Apparel wants huge handfuls of cash from a Long Island nail-polish maker.

The hipster clothing company, known for its racy ads, says the Forsythe Cosmetic Group of Freeport ruined the launch of its nail polish line by using defective bottles that began “exploding” almost immediately after going on sale.

Court papers say Forsythe then scammed “tens of thousands of dollars” after learning American Apparel was changing suppliers.

American Apparel’s Manhattan federal court suit seeks more than $5 million for fraud, product liability and breach of contract.

“We wish no ill will toward this fellow American manufacturer, but need to seek a fair and accountable solution to this incident,” American Apparel spokesman Ryan Holiday said.

In court papers, Forsythe denied the allegations made in the Manhattan federal court suit, calling them “a suspense-novel-worthy chain of melodramatic alleged events.”
