2nd GZ mosque leader quits

The beleaguered mosque and Islamic center planned for Ground Zero suffered yet another setback when its chief religious adviser abruptly resigned yesterday — after three weeks on the job.

Imam Abdallah Adhami, 44, who had come under fire for controversial remarks about gays and people who leave Islam, and Park51 developers issued a joint statement saying he was departing as senior imam.

Adhami had replaced Park51 co-founder Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who reportedly had strained relations with project developer Sharif El-Gamal.

Gay-rights advocates had accused Adhami of homophobia after it was learned he had given a lecture in which he linked homosexuality to child abuse — remarks from which El-Gamal immediately distanced himself.
