RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been convicted of robbing a Long Island taxi driver after a three-day trial.
Jamel Nails was convicted of first-degree robbery Wednesday. Prosecutors say he punched the driver, hit him in the head with a flashlight and fled with $200. The driver, from Huntington, testified at the trial.
Police arrested Nails in August after a DNA match from the water bottle the suspect left at the crime scene.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says the defendant faces 25 years in prison.
