Staten Island chorus boards LA-bound flight ahead of Oscars

Members of the Staten Island fifth-grade chorus that will perform at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony boarded a Los Angeles-bound today from Kennedy Airport.

The kids at PS 22 originally got the stunning news this past December from actress and award-show co-host Anne Hathaway, who made a surprise appearance at the Graniteville school’s annual winter concert to tell them they were invited to the gala event.

At the time, the frenzied celebration that ensued — with more than 60 kids pogo-jumping, screaming and crying with excitement — was captured on a video that lit up the Internet.

Chorus leader Gregg Breinberg said a top producer of the Academy Awards had become a fan of the kids last year — after watching online videos of their covers of hits like “Eye of the Tiger” and Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” — and decided he wanted them on Sunday night’s show.
