NASA officials investigating cocaine discovery at Kennedy Space Center

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA officials were investigating Tuesday the discovery of cocaine at the Kennedy Space Center.

The space agency said preliminary field tests determined 4.2 grams of a white powdery substance found March 7 was cocaine.

The incident was the second time in recent years that drugs have been found at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. In January 2010, a plastic bag with cocaine residue was found near a restroom in the restricted hangar where the space shuttle Discovery was being prepared for a mission flight.

The report comes as work on Launch Pad 39A resumed after a space engineer fell to his death Monday while preparing the shuttle Endeavour for its April 19 launch.
