Former Vice President Dick Cheney inspires HBO miniseries

LOS ANGELES — HBO will produce a miniseries inspired by the political career of former Vice President Dick Cheney and his “single-minded pursuit” for power, producers told Deadline Monday.

The project, based on the book “Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency” by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barton Gellman, will follow Cheney’s eventful career in politics.

The series will begin with Cheney’s entree into politics under the tutelage of Donald Rumsfeld during the Nixon administration, his stint as Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford, his tenure as Secretary of Defense under George H.W. Bush and his two terms as Vice President under President George W. Bush.

According to the series’ producers, they will showcase Cheney’s “single-minded pursuit of enhanced power for the Presidency (that) was unprecedented in the nation’s history.”

Emmy Award-winning scribe Rick Cleveland, who partnered with Academy Award-winner Aaron Sorkin on the NBC political drama “The West Wing,” will adapt the script for the series.

No details were provided on who would be cast to portray Cheney in the drama.
