Mayor defends bike-lane foe

Mayor Bloomberg rushed to the defense of his former transportation commissioner yesterday after a bicycling advocate charged she was objecting to a bike lane near her home in Brooklyn because it represented a “repudiation” of her tenure.

The remark about Iris Weinshall was made by Aaron Naparstek, editor of Streetsblog.

Bloomberg said, “I think it’s probably not fair to ascribe motives to Iris Weinshall for trying to stop a bicycle lane, other than she doesn’t think there should be a bicycle lane there.”
