‘Mad Men’ creator nears deal with studio, ending show shutdown

Infamously cantankerous “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner is nearing a deal to return to helm the award-winning AMC series, which would end the shutdown that has left the show’s future in doubt, Deadline reported Tuesday.

The 45-year old, who first tasted success as a writer on “The Sopranos,” has reportedly been in fierce arguments with “Mad Men” producer Lion’s Gate and AMC over his compensation.

Meanwhile, the series’ customary summer launch date was indefinitely postponed and cast members like the buxom Christina Hendricks have lined up other temporary gigs.

Weiner was said to be “finally (and slowly) nearing a deal,” according to Deadline.

“Mad Men” won three consecutive Best Television Series – Drama trophies at the Emmys before losing last year to newcomer “Boardwalk Empire.”
