Authorities investigating decade-old murder in Bronx

Authorities today began excavating a wooded area in a Bronx park after receiving a tip involving a decade-old murder, sources said.

Investigators from the NYPD, along with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the NY State Police and federal Immigration officers descended on a wooded area in Riverdale Park near Palisade Avenue in Riverdale about 10 a.m., police sources said.

They searched the area with cadaver dogs and began excavation but failed to turn up an remains, the sources said.

The tip involves the possible remains of a victim from a 10-year-old drug-related murder, law-enforcement sources said.

Authorities are expected to return tomorrow with more equipment to continue the search.
