Obama heads to Harlem

President Obama will hobnob with the Harlem gentry and the Big Apple’s wealthy Democratic donors during two events tonight.

The president will first attend a ceremony honoring former Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown — a son of Harlem — at the US Mission to the United Nations.

Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel and former Mayor David Dinkins will be among the dignitaries joining the president.

Later, Obama will schmooze well-heeled contributors at an exclusive Democratic National Committee fund-raiser at the Red Rooster restaurant in Harlem. The cost of the event is $30,800 per person and will raise $1.5 million for the DNC, sources said.

The president will then stop by a “thank you” event for supporters — free of charge — at the Harlem Studio Museum. About 250 political and community leaders were invited. It will be the first time that Obama will be on Rangel’s turf since the congressman was censured by the House for ethical and financial irregularities. The White House has kept Rangel at arm’s distance because of his legal woes.
