Federal prosecutors beefed up their case against state Sen. Carl Kruger yesterday in the latest “pay-to-play” corruption scandal involving Albany lawmakers.
A 32-page indictment adds bribery charges to the fraud and money-laundering allegations previously filed against the veteran Brooklyn Democrat. The Manhattan federal court filing also adds fraud and bribery charges against Dr. Michael Turano, a Manhattan gynecologist whom The Post revealed as Kruger’s longtime live-in boyfriend.
Kruger is accused of peddling his influence for more than $1 million in payoffs that Turano allegedly helped him launder through two shell companies.
Defense lawyer Benjamin Brafman said Kruger “never solicited nor accepted a bribe from anyone nor did he abuse or misuse his public office in any way whatsoever.”
Kruger, Turano and six co-defendants — including Democratic Brooklyn Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. — are scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
