The Elephant in the Living Room

As my cat, Audrey, will con firm, I love animals. But I draw the line at having lions, tigers, gigantic snakes, bears and other predators as pets. Other people have different opinions.

Michael Webber’s TV-style documentary “The Elephant in the Living Room” explores the growing trend of treating dangerous animals as just another household pet.

The film centers on Tim Harrison, a cop in suburban Oakwood, Ohio, a normally quiet suburb. He tells of encountering deadly animals that people kept as pets, including a killer snake that escaped into a closet in somebody’s house.

Then there’s the 500-pound lion attacking cars on an interstate highway. The animal belongs to a gentleman who insists it’s OK to keep the lion, Lambert, and his mate, Lacie, in a backyard cage. If he doesn’t mind, I’ll stick with Audrey.
