Kate Middleton as popular as Princess Diana in UK, poll finds

LONDON — Kate Middleton is just as popular as the late Princess Diana among the British, according to a survey released Friday.

The CBS News poll, conducted by YouGov in the UK, revealed 66 percent of Britons liked Price William’s bride-to-be — the same popularity level as her mother-in-law.

The latest poll rated Prince William (81 percent) and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth (80 percent), as the most popular members of the Royal Family.

Prince Harry followed in third position with 70 percent of Britons holding positive views of him.

But almost half revealed they have unfavorable opinions about Prince Charles — and his wife, Camilla, is generally disliked.

Of the almost 2,500 adults surveyed across the UK, eight in 10 said they had been following the Royal Wedding preparations.

And 70 percent said that William proposing with his late mother’s engagement ring was an “appropriate gesture.”

The survey also asked whether Kate should hold a job after she is married, with 52 percent of Britons thinking it would be fine for her to go to work daily.

But Americans had a different view and narrowly rejected her continuing to work after the big day, with half saying she should focus on her royal duties.
