A 32-page protocol guide was issued to each wedding guest. Public relations exec Catherine Saxton, who has worked with the royal family, deciphers the dos and don’ts for commoners:
DO
* Look sharp
For women, dresses are de rigueur.
Don’t wear white. Hats or a fascinator (festive feathered hairpiece) are a must. Men should wear morning (formal) or lounge (business) suits.
* Be charitable
“Family and friends will give gifts,” says Saxton. “Everyone else will donate to one of the 26 charities selected by William and Kate.” On the list: Irish Guards Appeal and Army Widows Association.
DON’T
* Be late
“They have almost 2,000 people to seat so they will need a lot of time,” says Saxton. The Queen is the last guest seated.
* Tweet
“It would be very foolish to try to sneak a picture,” Saxton says. No tweeting either.
* Drink too much “Everyone will be offered a glass of wine or champagne; maybe a second,” Saxton says. “You are rarely offered a third.”
