Furious rally pushes Blazers past Mavs

Brandon Roy’s go-ahead bank shot with 39.2 seconds left capped a 23-point second half comeback and the Blazers beat the Mavericks 84-82 last night in Portland, evening the first-round playoff series at two games apiece.

Roy, who has struggled to find his place on the team since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on both knees in January, had 18 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Trailing 64-41 in the third quarter, the Blazers started to rally. They cut the deficit to 77-70 with 4:01 left, and Roy made a 3-pointer and a free throw with 1:06 left to tie it at 82.

After Roy’s go-ahead jumper banked in, the Mavericks missed two 3-point tries, the first from Jason Kidd and the second from Jason Terry as time ran out.

Grizzlies 91, Spurs 88

In Memphis, Zach Randolph scored 25 points, including a rare 3-pointer with 41.9 seconds left, and the Grizzlies beat the Spurs for the franchise’s first playoff victory on its home court.

The Grizzlies, who now have a 2-1 lead, are trying to become just the fourth team to knock off the top-seeded team.

Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 23 points, but he failed to get off a shot coming up the right side in the final seconds.

Pacers 89, Bulls 84

In Indianapolis, the Pacers held off a furious rally for their first playoff win since 2006 when Chicago’s Carlos Boozer missed a 3-point attempt that could have tied the game with a second remaining. The Bulls lead the series 3-1 and can close it out at home Tuesday night.

Danny Granger scored 24 points for Indiana. Bulls guard Derrick Rose, who averaged 32.7 points in the first three games, finished with 15 points and 10 assists after spraining his left ankle late in the first quarter.

Thunder 97, Nuggets 94

In Denver, transforming from a shot-blocker into a shot-maker, Serge Ibaka tied his career high with 22 points and sparked the Thunder’s win over the Nuggets that gave them a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven playoff series.

NBA suspends two

The NBA suspended the Hawks’ Zaza Pachulia and the Magic’s Jason Richardson for tonight’s Game 4 in Atlanta after their physical altercation in the closing minutes of the third game.
