Little sis Pippa ‘maid’ a splash

She was supposed to be nothing more than a caboose on the end of her glamorous sister’s bridal train — but Kate Middleton’s stunning sister, Pippa, wound up stealing the royal wedding limelight like a runaway locomotive.

Philippa Charlotte “Pippa” Middleton sparkled in a hip-hugging, cowl-necked bridesmaid’s dress, designed by Sarah Burton for the late designer Alexander McQueen’s label.

It was a statement of couture that had fashionistas naming her the best dressed person at yesterday’s ceremony.

“The bride’s sister looked the picture of elegance,” gushed the Daily Mail of London, while The Sun newspaper exclaimed: “Gorgeous Pippa looks stunning!”

In a saucy slap at tradition — which dictates that only the bride wear white on her big day — Pippa Middleton’s dress was the color of snow and lit up television screens in what has become the 27-year-old’s star turn.

“Hottest bridesmaid ever!” declared US magazine moments after the ceremony.

Some even said that Pippa’s presence may have gone too far, stealing the shine from her older sis’ big day.

“Does the bridesmaid or maid of honor wear white?” Joy Behar asked on “The View.” “I’ve never heard of something . . . you’re not supposed to compete with the bride.”

Most royal watchers around the world didn’t care about controversy, however. Hundreds flocked to Facebook to start their own Pippa pages, extolling her as a star of the new generation of royals.

“Does anybody think Will married the wrong Middleton, cos Pippa the sister is stunning,” said Facebook Pippa fan Terry Humphreys.

“I think Kate Middleton put her sister Pippa in the dress she would’ve like to have worn,” posted Stacie Lewis-Phillips on Facebook. “Pippa’s dress was much more stunning.”

Pippa is a part-time party planner for a company called Table Talk and a businesswoman who runs an online party magazine called “The Party Times,” which is an offshoot of her wealthy parents’ company, which sells party favors across England.

Pippa even helped plan the wedding after-party for some 300 people. But even though she is a professional, she showed her wild side by angering Buckingham Palace staff by trying to get a disco ball installed for the event.

Sadly for the many men around England who tweeted things like “Pippa is hot” yesterday, she is dating British cricket player Alex Loudon.

But that didn’t stop wags from contemplating the idea of another future royal wedding — between Pippa and Prince William’s younger brother, Harry.

“Odds Kate sat down Pippa and Harry separately and ordered them not to hook up tonight: 5-1,” tweeted fashion bloggers The Fug Girls. “Odds they will anyway: even money.”

CNN’s Piers Morgan tweeted: “Prince Harry & Pippa Middleton — anyone else thinking what I’m thinking?”

Such speculation is sure to be awkward for Harry.

He already has an off-and-on gal pal, Chelsy Davy. She was also at the wedding but didn’t get the same fine reviews for her attire as Pippa.

“Not a fashion faux pas by any means,” the Mirror newspaper quipped about the blond Davy’s turquoise outfit. “More a ‘could try harder.’ “
