Cops nab ex-con who allegedly stole $230K in jewelry from princess

He’s royally screwed.

Detectives have nabbed the ex-con who swiped $230,000 in jewelry and high-end handbags from the posh Plaza Hotel suite where a princess from the United Arab Emirates had been staying, police sources said.

While Princess Arwa Al Qassimi was shopping with family and friends at Woodbury Commons in New Jersey last Sunday, James Bennett, 45, allegedly slipped into her 12th-floor room sometime between 1:30 and 9:30 p.m., the sources said.

Bennett allegedly stole a one-of-a-kind Marc Jacobs watch with diamonds that spell out “Allah,” a ruby ring surrounded by diamonds and a gold Rolex GMT watch encrusted with black diamonds bought in Dubai for $100,000. His haul also included Cartier jewelry, three Chanel and Prada handbags, an iPad and a Nokia international cellphone, sources said.

Bennett was able to sneak in unnoticed because the hotel room door hadn’t shut properly, and there is no video surveillance on the floor, which is usually reserved for VIP guests, sources said.

A break in the case came when Bennett was arrested Wednesday for allegedly snatching several checks Oct. 24 from the London Hotel on West 54th Street near Seventh Avenue and Times Square, sources said.

Security footage showed Bennett entering the manager’s office, sources said.

Cops were grilling Bennett about that break-in when they linked him to the Plaza heist, source said.

“It was determined that the modus operandi of this burglary was similar,” said one source.

Investigators raided his Washington Heights home Thursday and discovered the loot pilfered from the Plaza, sources added.

Bennett was charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property and is being held at the Manhattan Detention Center on $50,000 bail.

He is on parole after serving a three-year stint in prison on a burglar rap, records show.

His rap sheet boasts six other burglary arrests and a bust for drug possession, sources said.

Meanwhile, Qassimi and her entourage have moved out of the building and are considering a lawsuit against it, The Post reported Friday.
