Clueless about Corzine: NJ dodges a bullet

The Issue: The federal investigations into the now bankrupt MF Global, which was led by Jon Corzine.

No wonder Jon Corzine drove MF Global into bankruptcy pursuing the dud strategy of 40-1 leverage (“Jon Corzine Steps Down as CEO of MF Global,” Nov. 4).

After his short tenure and failed grandiose designs, employees lost their jobs, investors lost their capital and Wall Street got another black eye.

It’s no wonder that Goldman Sachs showed Corzine the door before he could work his magic and perform the same disappearing act there.

Needless to say, magician Corzine is no Hou-dini — he couldn’t make New Jersey disappear. He just turned it into a basket case.

New Jersey is fortunate that Corzine didn’t win a second term as governor. Otherwise, he could have taken it down, as he has MF Global.

I wonder if anyone familiar with Corzine’s career and ideology is surprised to learn that MF Global has collapsed under his leadership.

As governor, Corzine spent like there was no tomorrow, wearing blinders to the economic reality that is slowly causing the government to recognize that it can no longer be the provider to its myriad dependents.

Had New Jersey been a private company under Corzine, rather than a state, bankruptcy protection would have been necessary.

The people of New Jersey are fortunate now to enjoy the stewardship of a governor who believes that the state must live within its means. If only the victims of MF Global could enjoy a similar chance to recover their losses.

If you are on the fence about the legitimacy of the Occupy Wall Street protesters, their silence regarding Corzine and MF Global should leave no doubt as to their true raison d’etre.

The former darling governor, who left New Jersey $8 billion in debt, now seems to have personally orchestrated a Wall Street fraud that could make Enron pale by comparison.

How many families and pension funds are now wiped out?

So why isn’t OWS burning Corzine in effigy?

And where are Corzine’s campaign supporters, like Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, to sing protest songs against such a Wall Street crime?
