Girls volleyball roundup: With back against wall, Curtis beats Tots for playoff spot

Curtis is going back to the playoffs.

It was either win or go home for the Warriors and they came through in a big way, beating rival Tottenville, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15, in PSAL Staten Island A9 to earn their first postseason berth since 2007.

Sarah Novak had nine kills and Ryan O’Gara and Danielle Santucci both had five kills for Curtis (7-5), which would have finished .500 with a loss. In PSAL girls volleyball, only teams that have better than an even record advance to the playoffs.

Senior setter Taylor O’Gara, one of the best at her position in the PSAL, had 30 assists and her sister Ryan added 14 digs. Enxi Hoxholli had five digs.

Tottenville finishes 7-5 and now four teams – Susan Wagner and New Dorp as well – will make the playoffs from Staten Island.

Bryant 2, Van Buren 0: Carmen Clavijo had seven kills, Sukhjit Kaur had six kills and Viviana Portillo had 11 assists to lead Bryant (12-0) to a 25-12, 25-8 win in Queens A8. Raluca Mosora had eight assists. Van Buren is 6-6.

Lab Museum United 2, Seward Park 0: Liane Xie had five kills and Daniella Azulai had six assists to lead LMU (8-4) to a 28-26, 25-23 win in Manhattan A4. Kayla Williams had 13 kills and seven assists, Lisbeth Cruz had 10 assists and Debora Santoso added 13 digs for Seward (8-4).

Petrides 2, Port Richmond 0: Krystal Ash had seven kills and Julia Wichiciel had five assists for Petrides (3-9) in a 25-15, 25-22 win in Staten Island A9. PR is 0-12.

PSAL CLASS B

FDA 2, West 50th Street 1: Jadine Marsh had six kills and Angelina Almanzar had five kills to lead FDA (5-6) to a 21-25, 25-18, 25-19 win in Manhattan B8. West 50th Street is 0-12.
