Countdown to the Breeders’ Cup: Classic

The Post will profile each of the nine Breeders’ Cup races to be run Saturday at Churchill Downs. The Countdown to the Cup spotlights potential nice-price winners as handicapped by reporter Ed Fountaine and columnist Ray Kerrison. Good luck.

3-year-olds and up. Purse: $5 million. Distance: 1-1/4 miles (dirt). Post time: 7 p.m. Bets: WPS, Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, Daily Double, Super Hi 5.

ANALYSIS: Game On Dude, who is proven at 1-1/4 miles, and Uncle Mo, who isn’t, guarantee a legitimate pace. That should set it up for stretch-runners such as Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Flat Out and the international superstar So You Think, who loves the distance but never has raced on dirt. The filly Havre de Grace beat the boys in the Woodward.

LIVE LONG SHOTS: Santa Anita Handicap winner Game On Dude is one game dude. To Honor and Serve, coming of a win in the Pennsylvania Derby, has tactical speed. Drosselmeyer will be coming on late.

THE BET: Flat Out has a brilliant work for this and handles the distance. So You Think is the most accomplished horse in the field with eight Group 1 wins in Australia and Europe. If any horse can handle the switch from turf to dirt, he’s it. Havre de Grace and the live long shots can round out the exotics.
