Rapper Heavy D dead at 44

LOS ANGELES — Rapper Heavy D died Tuesday at a Los Angeles hospital. He was 44.

The MC, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was found unconscious in the walkway of his Beverly Hills home at 11:25am Tuesday, TMZ reported.

However, he was reportedly conscious and speaking when paramedics arrived and rushed him to an unspecified Los Angeles hospital at 12:00pm local time,

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:00pm.

Police investigating his death said there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Myers’ hits with Heavy D and the Boyz included “Mr. Big Stuff” in 1987 and 1991’s “Now That We Found Love.” He made his first live appearance in 15 years in October at the BET Awards.

Fans mourned the rapper on Twitter, including veteran Democratic political strategist Donna Brazile, who retweeted R&B singer John Legend’s message, “I’m so sad about Hev. He really was a wonderful person. “

Joseph Simmons, better known as Rev. Run of Run-DMC, wrote, “R.I.P to one of the best rappers who ever did it. Heavy D you will be missed tremendously!”

Heavy D’s own final tweet, posted late Monday Pacific time, was the simple message “BE INSPIRED!”
