Dump-Nickelback petition signs up 50,000

A Detroit grad student is suddenly a celebrity in his hometown for trying to get the NFL to dump the Canadian rock band Nickelback as halftime entertainment at the traditional Lions-Packers Thanksgiving Day game.

Dennis Guttman says even he never expected to get more than 50,000 signatures in just one week on his Facebook petition.

Detroit fans are expecting a bigger-than-usual TV audience this year, and some are upset that the band doesn’t really represent the city.

Guttman said he respects the commercial success Nickelback has achieved.

But “I think [lead singer] Chad Kroeger sounds like he’s constipated when he sings,” he said this week.
