Nationals catcher Ramos kidnapped in Venezuela

VALENCIA, Venezuela — Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped in his hometown of Valencia, northern Venezuela, his winter league team Tigres de Aragua announced Wednesday.

According to a report from Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional, which cited sources, four gunmen approached Ramos outside his home and took him away.

“They are still waiting for the kidnappers to contact the family,” the source said. “At the moment the only thing they have done is inform the police.”

Ramos, 24, had just completed his rookie season, hitting .267 with 15 home runs.
