Dr. Dre announces hiatus from music

LOS ANGELES — Rapper and producer Dr. Dre said he plans to take time off from music, World Entertainment News Network reported Tuesday.

The former N.W.A. member — real name Andre Young — is currently working on producing music for rappers Slim Da Mobster and Kendrick Lamar. After those projects are completed, he said, “I think that’s when I’m gonna just wrap it up for a minute because I’ve been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks.”

He said music was “like air” to him, but he still intended to “take a little bit of a break. Enjoy some time with the family ’til I get that itch to get back in.”

Dr. Dre made no mention of his third and purported final solo album “Detox,” which was first announced in 2002 and has been rumored to be in various stages of completion for several years.

Release dates were announced in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010, and two singles were released in September 2010 and February 2011, but the album has yet to materialize.
