No. 20 Cincy ‘Hosed’ by Presbyterian

Khalid Mutakabbir led Presbyterian’s comeback from a 15-point deficit and hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 7.6 seconds left yesterday, rallying the Blue Hose to a 56-54 upset of No. 20 Cincinnati for one of their biggest wins in five years of Division I basketball.

The Blue Hose (3-2) trailed by 15 with 10 minutes to go. Mutakabbir hit one big shot after another, including his 3-pointer from the left wing that gave Presbyterian its first lead of the second half. He matched his career high with 25 points.

Cincinnati (2-1) had the last shot, but point guard Cashmere Wright’s attempt went too hard off the rim, sending the Blue Hose into a celebration at midcourt while the crowd of 4,960 booed.

Kentucky 85, Penn State 47

In Uncasville, Conn., Doron Lamb had 26 points and No. 2 Kentucky (3-0)beat Penn State (3-1) in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament.

Louisville 69, Butler 53

In Indianapolis, Kyle Kuric scored 17 points and Chris Smith had 15, leading No. 8 Louisville (3-0) to a victory at Butler (1-2).

Wisconsin 69, Wofford 33

In Madison, Wisc., Jared Berggen scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds as No. 14 Wisconsin (3-0) easily defeated Wofford (1-2).

Vanderbilt 86, N.C. State 79

In East Rutherford, John Jenkins scored 28 points and No. 18 Vanderbilt (3-1) closed the game on a 10-2 run for a victory over North Carolina State (3-1).

Gonzaga 73, Hawaii 54

In Vancouver, British Columbia, Robert Sacre had a successful homecoming in Canada, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead No. 22 Gonzaga (3-0) past Hawaii (1-1).

American 66, Columbia 58

In Manhattan, Charles Hinkle scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead American University (2-2) to an easy victory over Columbia (0-3).

Hofstra 64, St. Francis (N.Y.) 59

In Hempstead, Mike Moore scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift Hosftra (2-1) over St. Francis (0-3).
