When food nerds attack

Anthony Bourdain is giving new meaning to the phrase “food fight.”

The bad boy chef-turned-TV host has written a graphic novel with author Joel Rose, which Bourdain has described as being an “ultra-violent slaughter-fest over culinary arcana.”

Due in June, the 160-page Vertigo comic “Get Jiro!,” is set in an alternate future where Americans have taken their food obsession to the extreme — resulting in food, restaurants and chefs becoming the sole form of entertainment and social standing left for the populace.

The titular Jiro is a mysterious star sushi chef who other master chefs are fighting over, because the secrets of food prep are the source of all power in the comic’s world.

“Get Jiro!” “will be food-centric; the food details will be ripe, hyper-violent, futuristic,” Bourdain told the Charleston City Paper.

“It will probably pit the internationalists against locavores, people who are willing to kill or die over whether the tomatoes are local.”
