Giants’ McKenzie does not practice due to toe injury

The last thing the Giants need is another hurting offensive lineman, which is why the addition of right tackle Kareem McKenzie to the injury report with a toe problem can be viewed as alarming.

McKenzie did not practice yesterday as the Giants, after two days off, began work in preparation for Monday night’s game against the Saints in New Orleans.

The Giants cannot afford to lose any more offensive linemen, considering their left tackle, Will Beatty, underwent surgery yesterday morning to repair a detached retina and has been declared out for Monday night’s game. Beatty will be out several weeks and perhaps as long as the remainder of the season.

UPDATES FROM OUR GIANTS BLOG

McKenzie has started all 10 games this season and was one of seven players to sit out practice.

* As expected, running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) and linebacker Michael Boley (hamstring) were not cleared to return and sat out. Receiver Mario Manningham played last week despite a knee issue and he did not practice because of the knee.

Defensive end Justin Tuck (ankle/shoulder) and defensive back Derrick Martin (hamstring) also sat out. For Tuck, the shoulder issue is a new one after he spent most of the season listed with neck and groin injuries.

* One bit of encouraging news for the Giants is that running back D.J. Ware was able to practice on a limited basis. Ware was knocked out of Sunday night’s 17-10 loss to the Eagles with a concussion, but he has been cleared for football activity. Defensive end Osi Umenyiora (knee) was also limited.
