Israeli brass skeptical of Iran ‘non-nuke’ blast

Israel’s former director of national security replied cryptically that there are “no coincidences” when asked yesterday about a series of explosions at suspected Iranian nuclear-weapons sites.

“There aren’t many coincidences, and when there are so many events, there is probably some sort of guiding hand,” Maj.Gen. Giora Eiland, director of Israel’s National Security Council from 2004 to 2006, told Israel army radio.

His comments, reported by The Times of London, came on the heels of a blast Monday in Isfahan, the site of a suspect Iranian nuclear facility.

Iranian officials denied that the site or explosion had anything to do with nuclear weapons.

A similar blast two weeks ago at a Revolutionary Guard base near Tehran killed 30 troops, including the head of the Iranian missile-defense program.
