Temple Grandin joins Twitter

Temple Grandin, the autistic doctor who revolutionized animal sciences and whose life story became an Emmy-winning HBO movie last year, has started on Twitter.

Tweeting under the name TempleG2697, her new account — opened two weeks ago — reads simply:

“Hello. My name is Temple Grandin, it’s very nice to meet you.”

By yesterday, she had tweeted only a handful of times — including announcing she was on her way to an interview “about cows” — but seemed to get the hang of the site quickly.

Most of her first tweets were direct messages comforting what appeared to be another tweeter with autism.

“It’s okay @Christoph-erB233,” she wrote. “People just don’t understand us. I have a squeeze machine that helps me calm down.”

Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University, was made famous by the HBO movie starring Clare Danes.
