Girls volleyball rankings

Another season has come to an end and once again a Queens team finished on top in the PSAL.

Cardozo defeated Francis Lewis, 25-17, 25-13, in the Class A city championship match last Monday for the Judges’ second straight title. The last time a team from Queens did not win was John F. Kennedy in 2006.

Here are the final rankings of the season:

1. St. Francis Prep (12-1) (Last week: 1)

Kelly Flynn, Kiara Pierre and Kendra McCalla have been starting as sophomores and helped St. Francis to a CHSAA Class AA state semifinal last year and the team’s first trip to the state final this season. In 2012, it’ll be their team.

2. Archbishop Molloy (10-3) (2)

The nucleus of this year’s team – Jenna Hoffman, Maddie Casello, Amanda Price, Emily Rabot and Lauren – returns next year with a CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens title on their minds. Molloy fell just short, to St. Francis Prep in five sets, this season.

3. Cardozo (14-0) (3)

Ashley Grubler had 13 kills and Adriana Braciak had six kills to lead Cardozo to a dominant, 25-17, 25-13 win over Francis Lewis in the PSAL Class A city championship match last Monday. It was a repeat in impressive fashion.

4. Fieldston (13-0) (4)

Arianna Francis, Catalina Jimenez, Lisa Slivken and a host of others return to try and win two straight NYSAISAA championships. Fieldston might be the odds-on favorite to do it again with all that talent back.

5. Brearley (13-1) (5)

Mary Claire Bartlett and Funmi Adejobi will be back next year and surely motivated after falling to Fieldston in the NYSAISAA final. Brearley should be one of the top private school squads once again in 2012.

6. Fontbonne Hall (7-5) (6)

Linda Strong will put the team in the hands of Siobhan Sammon and promising sophomore Kristen Sullivan next year. There’s no reason why Fontbonne Hall shouldn’t continue to be the class of Brooklyn.

7. Francis Lewis (11-4) (7)

After an unexpected run to the PSAL Class A final, young Francis Lewis should be back in a big way next year. Ragina Anthony, Stacy Paickattu, Naya Harris and Sandra Arcabascio will all be back for what should be a title contender.

8. Stuyvesant (14-1) (8)

Look for Natalie Kozlova to emerge next year as one of the city’s very best players. She, Anna Wang and Diane Forrest will lead a Stuyvesant team that will deal with the resignation of longtime coach Phil Fisher.

9. Susan Wagner (15-1) (9)

If you’re looking for an early 2012 PSAL title favorite, you might find it out on Staten Island. Superb setter Kristine Ciurcina, Julia Bogdan, Karolina Gajda and Anetta Nowak kall return for their senior seasons.

10. Grover Cleveland (12-1) (10)

The Tigers are going to look very, very different after winning the PSAL Queens A7 division title and advancing to the quarterfinals. But with coach Anna Dawidowska on the bench and players getting club experience, Cleveland should be fine.
